Former Tracey Cub Earns National Award at U.S. Invention Convention

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Scarlett Tiani and her amazing journey from a 5th-grade Invention Convention project at Tracey Magnet School to the national stage!

What began in Mrs. Santaniello’s GT classroom grew into an extraordinary achievement, advancing through the school showcase and Connecticut State Competition to earn Scarlett a spot at Invention Convention U.S. Nationals. Out of more than 305,000 student participants nationwide, only 513 qualified for Nationals, and Scarlett was one of just 4 students from Norwalk to earn that honor!

Tail Wag Warning is an innovative pet safety system designed to help keep dogs, delivery drivers, first responders, and the community safe. The system combines a customizable mailbox magnet with key pet information and a QR code for additional details, along with a smart warning light that alerts others when a dog is outside. Together, these tools provide quick access to important pet information and help prevent unexpected encounters.

Scarlett was named the National Animal Care & Pets Award Winner (K–12) and was one of just 5 inventors nationwide to receive a Wilmer Hale award supporting a patent application for her invention. Her achievement is a powerful example of what creativity, curiosity, and determination can accomplish. We’re proud to call her a Tracey Cub alum and can’t wait to see what she invents next. Dream Big!
